  1. wow – what amazig photos. I so want to go! Thanks.

  2. Great choice for the first pic.

    • Thank you! Isn’t that bicycle perfect? It was parked right outside the window of the apartment where I was staying. It’s amazing how such simple things can capture a place so effortlessly.

  3. Reblogged this on letsreasonitout.

  4. JEALOUS!!

Looks like you had a great time. I’m over here studying for law school finals and you’re out wondering the great city of Firenze. I miss those days back in the day, when we would just pick a direction and start walking. . . “Quelli Erano Giorni!”

Have fun and remember us poor less-fortunate souls!

    Buon’ Natale!

    – Don

    • How could I not think about you when I’m there Don? You are all over that city for me…I think those people, 14 years younger, are still there, wandering. There are traces of us everywhere…sometimes I really believe I might bump into the two of us strolling down one of the cobbled streets. Memories’ ghosts. Love you.

  5. nicely done Pacifica! Great shots…

    • Thank you Ruy! I still have NO idea what I’m really doing with a camera…but I think I have an eye for capturing unique images, even if I don’t know how to manipulate them yet. It was so wonderful to see both of you – I hope we get to do it again soon, perhaps in Florence, perhaps in another enchanting location!

  6. Was great to see you guys again!

  7. Wow, these pictures are so beautiful! The views are just amazing!

  8. Beautiful photographs!!

  14. Simply inspiring shots!
    Congrats on being freshly pressed.

  15. ‘love to see my town through different eyes! Are you living in Florence or just on holiday?

    • I was just there for the weekend – but I have been there in total about 8 times, including staying for about 6 weeks at one point as a teenager. It was my “first love” in terms of cities. Also – I have tons of family in the Tuscany region – so the earth there feels so homey to me there. Are you originally from Florence or a transplant?

  16. The bikes and loaves of bread are my favorite part. I’m so jealous!

  17. How beautiful! This post cheered me up and has made me want to go to Italy.

  18. Simply beautiful; Florence – Italy – is life, and you’ve captured its essence perfectly.

  19. Florence in the autumn/winter is unbelievable. Much preferred to summer. Great job capturing the beauty!

    • I totally agree. Summertime overwhelms the city with tourists, sweat and noise…still beautiful and captivating, but the in the fall and winter you more clearly see the heart of the city, the pulse of it.

  20. I love Florence! I was in Torino in December and it was very similar to this. I love the little owl ornaments. I have two that I brought back with me. Great photos 🙂

  21. Gonna add Florence to the list of places to visit before I …..
I am sure you had a great time there.

  22. Reminds me of why I fell in love with Firenze…

  27. THIS is what Florence looks like in December??! Man, I think I’m living in the wrong city…

    Beautiful photos!

  28. Makes me want to pop into a bakery for a Christmas cucchidata.

  29. Great pictures! I was there in July when the temperature was around 42 degrees Celsius. Though I was charmed by the city, the heat was quite unbearable. December temperature must be just right.

  30. Splendid show, greetings

  31. These photos are amazing!! :)!!! Thank you for sharing, I really appreiate it. 🙂

  36. Cool pictures….

Spend the winter in Firenza to catch a dose of influenza

  37. Beautiful photographs! Bellissima! My dream when I was a teen was to run away to Italia and fall in love in Roma. I’m such a pathetic romantic sometimes! I love Italy!

    • Well we are clearly kindred spirits then…Italy was the first place I ran off to when I began to travel alone. I fell in love there as well – with the country 😉

  38. Just beautiful. What a city, especially in December. Thank you for sharing.

  49. Just beautiful. Florence has to be one of my favourite places in Italy and these photos make me want to go back tomorrow. Thank you.

  50. Firenze is a wonderful city at any time of year, your photos capture how different it feels in winter. A great set of consistently creative images.

  54. decent

  55. Fantastic photos! I long to travel to Italy – it’s very high on my list. That bike shot is awesome.

I recently went on a trip to southeast asia (http://calimike.wordpress.com). After that, I decided to create a website dedicated to artists and photographers. If you or any photographers or artists are interested in creating a beautiful website to showcase and sell your work (and get noticed).

It will be very easy for non-technical artists and photographers to create their own place (and in minutes not months). I’m letting a number of people in to try it out in the coming weeks.

Artists and Photographers check it out!

  67. Hey, your post shows quite a few nice and characteristic spots in Florence. I spent my weekend in Milan and added a few photos as well, in fact I was inspired by your post. If you’ d like to check it out, you can do so here: http://miracleworksfilm.wordpress.com/category/miracle-works-company/photography/

  68. Thanks for this superb. I was wondering whether you were preparing of writing related posts to this 1. .Maintain up the superb articles! 929620

  69. I recently returned to the States after living in Florence, Italy for three years. Your Mosaic of Florentine photo’s brings both nostalgia and appreciation for a most treasured city.

  70. Your photographs are amazing

  71. your pictures are gorgeous.you have a terrific bunch of photos i wish i could have taken myself..but unfortunately i will never get to florence .however i did notice that the geometric window in florence photo was exactly the same window featured in a store along fifth avenue in nyc that i had taken..wow..isnt that amazing..

    • Why will you never go to Florence? It’s never too late! Do you live in NYC? I lived there for five years… I miss it so much! It’s sort of nice to know that the shop window I saw in Florence connected me to just a slice of Manhattan, like a hidden portal.

  72. fantastic, all photos have a touch of art i love it.

  73. oh and check out my blog too ..www.lifewithapositiveview.wordpress.com
thanks ..i really did enjoy looking at yours..

  74. So glad to see this post FP! Can I ask some advice? I’ll be in Europe from 1 Oct till early december next year (providing there’s no 2012 apocolypse which will, needless to say, REALLY annoy me). I had a few friends warn me off Florence at that time of year on the premis that it’s a “summer city” and completely dead in the colder months. As someone who is actually there, is there much validity to this?

    • Well…I guess it just depends what a person is looking for when they travel. I would say that there are many cities in Europe – primarily beach towns like for example Lagos in Portugal or Rimini in Italy that really empty out in the colder months, because many of the homes and businesses there are owned by people who only spend the summer there. Florence is nothing like that. There are a LOT less people in the fall and winter and for me that is a very good thing. In the summer I imagine the discos and bars are a lot more full – but full of other tourists. That’s fun too of course – but if what you are trying to get in your trip is a real flavor for the city, I think it’s actually much better to visit a popular tourist destination like Florence in the off-season. For example – the first time I visited Rome was in July and I hated it. The second time was in the middle of November and I was absolutely charmed by the city. It had a totally different character in the Fall. Tourist cities are often like actors in the summer, performing themselves. In the off-season they have the capacity to settle back into who they really are for a time, stop performing, and just be. Besides you’ll get better food, friendlier natives, and cheaper accommodation in the off-season. I definitely say go for it! Florence is beautiful all year round

  75. Your photos make me miss this city and I only spent two days there. Thanks.

  76. Such beautiful pictures! Thank you for sharing them.

  81. What a beautiful city. Last time I was there I only had access to a disposable camera, but somehow the city has a magical way of lighting itself up, that even with a disposable I was able to capture its essence.

  98. Having just returned from Florence myself, I am so impressed with your photos! Amazing and captured the beauty of the city. I would go back there in a heart beat!

  99. cradle of the Renaissance, home of Dante, Michelangelo, and the Medici, Florence is unlike any other city in its extraordinary mingling of great art and literature, natural splendor, and remarkable history. Intimate and grand, learned and engaging, Michael Levey’s Florence renders the city in all of its madness and magnificence. thank you

  100. beautiful photos! I particularly like the first photo of the bike.

  101. A Weekend in Florence in December photos is very nice

  102. Absolutely beautiful! I visited Florence last year and fell in love with the city. I have a lot of great photos, but I admit, they tell a rather superficial story. I love the way your pictures really tells the story of a people and their culture. Very inspirational, thank you for sharing.

  103. Thank you for sharing your photos and making me smile today. I am in the UK and I love travelling in Europe. Firenze is such a beautiful city to walk around and a fairly lively (!) place to drive around. I have some “snaps” of some of the views but I just love the candid people shots and the signs and posters etc. Thank you again… I need more weekends in lol.

It’s so starkly contrasting from the Firenze of June that I remember, but oh so gorgeous. In an odd way, it evokes the same feelings in me that NYC does at this time of year.

  202. They are all your photos, right? I don’t remember when was the last time I saw so many good photos in one place.
I first wanted to leave my feedback about each of them but they kept coming and coming as I scrolled down so now I feel just a huge energy/creativity boost and forgot almost all I wanted to say.
About the horse- what’s written above its food? Is it like – don’t touch, it bites? It’s funny. It’ written MORDE there and it means an animal’s face in Russian 😀
i love the way the bike stands out in the first photo. I definitely love the yellow spot the tree creates in the second one. I love the rhythm of the third one. The girl whose umbrella matches the wall behind her is really cool too.
In fact, I would love to send here a whole crowd of people and tell them – see, that’s what photography should look like.
    Brilliant! Thanks for posting!

  203. Amazing! I truly want to go even more now.

  204. Nice post!

  211. Souvenirs de Florence. Firenze is Beauty in some of its highest degrees. The beauty of this city is almost unbearable. The Stendhal syndrome, also known as hyperkulturemia (?) or Florence syndrome, is a psychosomatic disorder that causes rapid heartbeat, dizziness, fainting, confusion and even hallucinations when an individual is exposed to an experience of great personal significance, particularly viewing art, and particularly when exposed to the overwhelming beauties of Florence. So, friends, please beware of the beauty of Firenze.
